Roughly half our customers do their own packing and we just move it. The other half hire us to pack — either fully (we do everything) or partially (kitchen and breakables only, you do the rest). Both are billed by the hour at the same rate as moving labor, plus materials at cost.
Materials are billed at cost, not marked up — small box $2.95, medium $3.50, large $4.25, dish-pack $15, wardrobe $28, mattress bag $12, bubble wrap by the foot. We bring more than we expect to use; you pay only for what's actually packed. Anything unused gets unloaded back into our truck and credited on your final bill. We've had customers save $200 by being conservative with packing material upfront.
Phoenix-specific: we use heat-protocol load order on every job between May and September. Heat-sensitive items (electronics, vinyl records, candles, vitamins, prescription medications, wine, art on canvas) load last and ride shortest in the truck. For long-distance summer moves, those items get insulated blankets over the crates. We've had customers in Tucson drive across to load their wine collection separately because their previous mover didn't think about heat — we do.
Full-service pack: what we do
- Pack every item in the house in proper-size boxes with appropriate cushioning
- Wrap and pad all furniture, art, mirrors, lamp shades
- Disassemble and pad-wrap large furniture
- Label every box with room and contents summary
- Build inventory list as we go (matches what we deliver)
Time estimate: 1-bedroom apartment ~5-7 hours with 2 packers. 3-bedroom house ~10-14 hours with 2-3 packers (often spread over two days).
Partial pack options
Kitchen-and-breakables-only is the most common — we pack the items most likely to break (china, glassware, art, mirrors, electronics) and you handle clothes, books, and shoes. Runs about 3-5 hours for a typical 3-bedroom home.
Specialty packing (additional)
Custom wood crating for art over 4 feet, antique furniture, chandeliers, glass tabletops over 60 inches. We build crates on-site or in our warehouse depending on item size. Quoted per item.
