Heavy and specialty items make up about 8% of our jobs — usually billed as add-ons to a regular move, sometimes as standalone single-item moves. Pool tables are the most common (slate, three pieces, requires disassembly and re-leveling on-site). Gun safes are second (we move 800-1,500 lb safes regularly with a stair-climber dolly and 4-man crew). Hot tubs and fitness equipment round out the bulk of it.
The wrong moving company can do real damage with heavy items. Pool table slate dropped out-of-square at reassembly cracks. Gun safes set on a tile floor without proper protection chip the tile. Hot tubs slid across decking can puncture or scratch. We've seen the aftermath of cheap moves on all three. We use proper equipment (4-wheel piano dollies for pool table slate, stair-climber appliance dollies for safes, curved hot-tub dollies) and we don't shortcut crew size.
Specialty items we move
- Pool tables (slate disassembled, transported, re-leveled at destination): $450 in-metro flat, includes leveling. Recovering felt is extra and quoted separately.
- Gun safes up to 1,500 lbs: $350-$650 depending on stairs and access. We use stair-climber dolly with rated lift capacity.
- Hot tubs empty (water drained 24 hours before): $425-$750 depending on size and access. We do not service or reconnect plumbing/electrical.
- Treadmills, ellipticals, weight stacks: usually included free in standard moves. Standalone moves quoted as single-item.
- Garage workshop equipment (table saws, drill presses, welding rigs): quoted per item. We crate small power tools and skid-strap large equipment.
- Outdoor statuary, fountains, large planters (under 800 lb): quoted per item. Larger requires equipment we don't stock — we'll refer you to a heavy-haul outfit.
What we don't move
Anything over 1,500 lbs as a single piece. Vehicles. Industrial machinery. Items requiring crane offload. We'll refer you to a Phoenix specialty rigger for those.
